Churches of Christ Care (Care) is a not-for-profit organisation that was established in 1930 to provide food and clothing to the needy during the Great Depression.
"Samford is such a beautiful area that we did not want to move away from it. It is an expanding town, that holds a rural atmosphere, but it's also close to everything. We didn't initially think of a retirement village as, like a lot of people, our perception was wrong. However, our search eventually led us to our current home at Samford Grove where we purchased off the plan."
Everybody is very friendly here and it didn't take long to settle in. I still carry on my independent activities. I worked with a firm of accountants and have retained about four clients which I can easily do here.
I don't own my home; I rent it. We all do. Part of the arrangement is that we receive three meals a day, cooked for us. The food is without reproach.
Our age was also a factor. Barbara is 68 and I am 70. We are active members of our bowls club, still are, and over the past few years we have had a number of members who have made the move when they were closer to 80. Without exception, they all say they should have done it years ago.
