"We moved up to the coast 13 years ago in 1994, and into Wamberal Gardens in 1999. I had eight years here with my wife Margaret before she passed away. I was very lucky being here; I had all the necessary support. It's a real feature of the place, the spirit and the friendliness of the residents."

She was 90 then and they have three levels of care here. You can have your own home, which we have, there are serviced apartments, and then there is the nursing home. So we were covered. We also liked the security.
"This one impressed me with its space. Since I have been here, I have made a whole new heap of friends, a whole new social scene. "I have complete freedom and security."
There are currently 12 village communities in the area, waiting lists are long, and there are no new developments - so plan ahead! Greater Port Macquarie is a bustling coastal region 4.5 hours drive from Sydney in northern New South Wales.
