We looked at Tall Trees for about 12 months. The staff were excellent, there was never any pushing - they worked with us and we worked with them. They gave us a 90-day contract so we could sell our home, and we sold in the expected period of time.
Norm was very conscious of our age difference (he was 76 when we signed up) and he was concerned that if anything happened to him would I be OK.
"I have been here 20 years this month and haven't stopped laughing since. We came here looking for somewhere for Don's mum. I was working and Don was semi-retired. We got to the entrance and I said, ‘This is where I am going to live.'"
We had a big home and decided to downsize. We first bought an apartment in Port Melbourne on the third floor, which we loved, but you couldn't park the car easily and with the hotels all round you open all hours with the drunks - it was a problem.
