It has been a harrowing week but one with a good outcome. My mother in law has moved from a pleasant single bed ensuite room in one aged care home to a two bed room with linoleum floors in another.

Every year retirement villages suffer an average of six fires in winter across Australia, sadly accompanied with one or more deaths. It is perhaps timely to again alert residents to be aware of the hazards of heaters and kitchen fires, plus replacing batteries in smoke alarms. Last week a 62 year old male died as result of a kitchen fire at 2.30am at the LLC Pacific Palms Home Village in Burpengary, north of Brisbane.
