The United Protestant Association (UPA) of NSW has applied to Orange City Council for the redevelopment of its Astill Court retirement village complex in Autumn Street.
The proposal is to demolish 15 existing self-contained dwellings, the removal of three trees and other vegetation, and the construction of eight single-storey self-contained dwellings for seniors or people with a disability according to the development application (DA).
“Due to the ongoing demand for independent living accommodation for seniors UPA proposes to redevelop the centre area of the site to replace older units which do [not] meet current standards and requirements,” it said.
UPA have progressively redeveloped the village in stages with this development of the central area of the site being stage five of the project.
According to the DA the eight new units would be of similar design to the existing 26 units on site and would not affect the aesthetics of the neighbourhood including the existing streetscapes of Nile and Autumn streets.
Each two bedroom unit would have its own outdoor courtyard and garage with sufficient separation between each unit and neighbouring properties to ensure clear access and privacy.
The DA is currently on display at the council offices until 5pm on Friday, July 27 and all submissions must be received by council by that time.
