RetireAustralia’s Wood Glen Retirement village on the NSW Central Coast has just released its cheeky 2020 calendar featuring twenty four women aged between 70 and 92 years of age and almost 60 images.
Five months of photo shoots and 2,500 snaps later, the calendar highlights the village’s facilities including the resort style lodge, heating swimming pool, bar, bowling green and exercise areas.
Organiser and village resident Kate Dowling said the calendar, named A Taste of Wood Glen, made use of an amazing array of props including 400 balloons woven into mesh fabric wrapped around the women in one scene alone.
In another shot the women dress up as witches to mark Halloween in October, while various attempts to climb aboard floating pink flamingos meet with mixed success in a pool shot for January.
Mrs Dowling, whose husband Michael shot all of the images said “we came up with the idea because we wanted to show what life was like here at Wood Glen retirement village. It’s more than just a calendar – it was about bringing people together,’’ adding “while we wanted it to be fun, it also contains some serious messages, such as that everybody’s body is beautiful.’’
Wood Glen Retirement village manager Vanessa Fordyce said the calendar, which had a print run of 240, was initiated by the residents and highlighted the friendships that commonly developed among people living in a village.
The calendar comes as the village itself is preparing for a milestone year with construction on its premium vertical living community “The Rise” anticipated for completion at the end of 2020.
