Residents of Stockland’s Birtinya Retirement Village on the Sunshine Coast have started the New Year with a series of free healthy-eating information sessions, a new program that aims to give seniors better advice when seeking to improve their health and wellbeing.
The sessions are run by qualified local nutritionist and dietitian Jody Pollard, from Total Nutrition Dietitian, and will cover topics such as healthy eating on a budget and understanding food labels and include food tastings and handouts.
Pauline Barton, regional development manager for retirement living at Stockland, said the sessions would provide valuable information and advice to not only Stockland residents, but the community of local seniors who are welcome to attend and learn about improving their health and wellbeing.
Each session includes a fun and interactive presentation on healthy eating and features a recipe demonstration and tasting to show participants simple ways of creating healthy dishes.
“The sessions are all about presenting dietary information that’s easy to understand and can be incorporated into your daily eating habits,” Ms Pollard said.
“It’s not about cutting out everything that you like. My aim with all my clients is to make it easy for people to eat well and make wise choices for themselves and their family by introducing healthy foods into their diet and showing how to create dishes within their budget and to their own personal taste.”
Stockland’s free healthy eating information sessions are held from 10am at the Birtinya Retirement Village sales centre, on the corner of Birtinya Boulevard and Lake Kawana Boulevard.
The program’s popularity is gaining attention, with the next session being Healthy Eating Made Easy on February 20, followed by Understanding Food Labels on March 6 and Healthy Eating for Easter on March 27.
