Bev Frichot and Pauline Horton are Guardian Angels - that is, they are part of the Guardian Angel Knitting Program run by World Vision and Guardian Pharmacies that involves people knitting clothes for the world's poorest children.
Representing Toowoomba and surrounds, Ms. Horton has about 40 to 50 knitters 'on her books,' but says many people remain anonymous and drop items into a box outside her home. "People at retirement villages sew or crochet items," she explains. "It gives them something to do that they're interested in and it goes to a worthy cause."
In 2007, the program sent 3000 garments abroad - this year they will convey a bundle of clothes to kids in the Caucasus region bordering Russia, Iran and Turkey. Ms. Horton likes to see what others create: "People just love doing it and some of things we get are amazing."
