The $39 million development in Elderslie was recently approved by the Sydney South West Planning Panel and aims to ease the financial pressure for pensioners and low-income single-parent families by providing 122 affordable housing units.
According to BaptistCare’s general manager Mike Furner, the project will help those who are in real need in the community and offer them opportunities that would not otherwise be available. Their aim is to provide access to well-located, well-designed housing with the support for seniors to maintain their independence.
The NSW Government’s Social and Affordable Housing Fund will subsidise rental costs on the properties. According to Mr Furner, rents will be set at 75% of market rent for those earning low and moderate incomes whilst for those on very low or low incomes, such as pensioners, the rent will be set at 25% of the household income.
Mr Furner said all residents will have access to BaptistCare’s support services including in-home care for seniors, retirement living and a social club co- located on site.
Construction is due to begin in April.
