While the federal government’s announcement of a $1.2 billion boost to the aged care sector has met mixed results, Uniting Care has welcomed the compact - but says there's more work to be done to improve working conditions.

The compact will boost pay and conditions for aged care workers whose employers meet the terms of the 'Aged Care Workforce Compact.

Uniting Care’s New South Wales Director Steve Teulan welcomes this ‘modest’ start to changes in a sector desperate for reform.

Uniting Care operates several aged care facilities in the Riverina including Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Narrandera and Young.

"The work that is being done by Health Workforce Australia to support people to look at improved training for aged care staff is really important," said Mr Teulan.

"We would like government to continue to work with the sector to improve training and career opportunities for people working in aged care."
