Greater Taree councillors are set to discuss a Memorandum Of Understanding between themselves and developer Roche over a parcel of land in Harrington.

Although Roche have done nothing with the land, they want a five year extension on the MOU. Council has until the end of June to exercise its right to buy the land for $1.

The Harrington community is urging the council to do that, and consider an aged care facility for the site. No group has stepped forward with a development plan as yet.

A report into aged care in Taree has said that no significant need for aged care exists in Harrington, and that need is unlikely to change before 2021.
