Expressions of interest are being called for the management of aged care homes in Rockhampton.

However members of the Queensland Nurses Union are fighting the privatisation of facilities at North Rockhampton and Eventide announced by Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service chairman, Charles Wade.

QNU is concerned for the future of residents with mental illness who would not be managed in the non-government sector.

"What will happen to those residents who are struck down with an illness that leads to behavioural problems other non-government facilities can't manage?” said QNU organiser David Abraham.

Bruce Young, the local Member for Keppel pointed to a 'seamless transition' when the Gus Moore Nursing Home closed on the Capricorn Coast, adding that the move to privatisation was part of a national health reform.
