The 50 year old Southern Cross University nursing student was awarded the cadetship as one of many scholarships and prizes awarded as part of the University's Rising Stars Scholarship.

Mr Baldwin has worked in aged care for over fifteen years in a range of roles, from cleaning to kitchen work. He’s no stranger to the challenges and rewards of the sector.

"It's a really lucky break and provides much more hands-on experience," he said of the cadetship. “It's a really great opportunity."

The SCU program awarded more than $460,000 worth of scholarships  to 151 holders.
