In the US major private and not-for-profit operators are closing aged care beds in response to the rapid growth of home care, and in particular private home care, which is taking market share from traditional not-for-profit operators.

Average residential care occupancy is down to 13 months compared to 2.8 years here in Australia.

Katie Smith Sloan has agreed to a penetrating video interview from the US to explain the dynamics and journey to this point and the strategic actions and reactions of her many thousands of not-for-profit members.

She is perhaps better placed than any observer internationally to give an insight into what we can expect here in Australia. Katie is Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Leading Age, America’s peak not-for-profit association for ageing services, and Executive Director of IAHSA, the international peak body for ageing services.
