As more Australians rely on aged care services, new research asks what keeps older people healthy?

Dr Rosanne Coutts and Dr Sonya Brownie at Southern Cross University’s School of Health and Human Sciences are asking that very question; what keeps older people healthy?

Their study into the health and wellbeing of older Australians is aimed at better understanding how communities can make healthy lifestyle choices.

It is information that will help Australia plan for aged care into the future.

“One of the things we are particularly interested in is where older people obtain their information about keeping healthy,” Dr Brownie said.

“We believe there is a real problem for older people in accessing knowledge that is useful to them.”

The study will take place with focus groups of around five people at the University’s Lismore campus, and they’d like your help.

“We want to know more about the factors on health and wellbeing that affect you from day-to-day. We would love to hear from anyone aged 60 years and over, interested in participating in our study.”

Understanding how people engage with health services today will help improve tomorrow’s aged care.
