MP Tony Windsor was instrumental in keeping the Bundarra’s aged care facility open.

The Grace Munro centre was facing closure several years ago. Spokesperson Peggy Weis said that Mr Windsor’s intervention helped keep it open for the good of residents and the community.

"He put a lot of his personal time in, and he also put personal funds towards it, he was just a very, very committed man to our little hostel and we're very grateful he was there to help."

In lobbying federal Ministers about bed allocation, his support proved invaluable and kept the centre open.

"The staff are all local, it's brought work into the town for some people, and it is just a great organisation," she said.

"To have these facilities in small villages is so good and it's not had an empty bed since we fought to keep it open, so that's saying something."

Tony Windsor will stand down at the next election.
