Because of limited aged care facilities in the state, home and community care is getting a major funding boost in WA.

Project and development manager Andrew Robinson says home care is a growing sector and is often preferred in regional communities.

New funding from the state government has seen an injection of over $500,000 into the Bunbury, Esperance, Goldfields and Kimberley communities alone.

Mr Robinson said there’s a real move away from thinking that going into aged care is the natural progression, adding that it is important for people’s physical and mental health.

“It's also the wellbeing of our communities to have that resource of the older people's experience and knowledge," he said.

"It all stays in the community rather than being shut off into a home".
