Residents of Gannet and Ebbtide have been allowed to live out their days at the aged care facility in what Save Eventide campaigners are celebrating as a "bittersweet win''

Metro North Hospital and Health Service chair Paul Alexander (pictured) has agreed to close beds in Gannet and Ebbtide Houses through natural attrition.

This is a change to Campbell Newman’s LNP Government’s decision to close both facilities. Wayne Swan, Federal Member for Lilley, said the community had worked hard to save Eventide.

"This decision is welcome for remaining residents and their families, but it will never heal the pain this sorry saga has already caused to so many people in our community," he said.

"It's sometimes hard to fully comprehend the impact this decision has had on people's lives, including residents and of course the hardworking staff.

"At the core of the campaign to save Eventide has been making sure our elderly are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve."
