The EBITDA profit of Derek McMillan’s retirement arm of Australian Unity jumped from $7.8M in 2012 to $12.6M in 2013, a rise of 55%, on the back of organic growth and acquisition.

AU doubled its home care service by acquiring Better at Home Care in December. Total revenue grew to $73M with home care delivering $5M. Better at Home Care has a turnover of approximately $2.1M.

AU has also commenced trial of a new concept in care which they call ’Better Together’. They have worked with Wahroonga Aged Care to remodel an 18 bed section to be more home like, with a central open living room, domestic style kitchen and dining designed to support residents’ longer term mobility and independent living.

It is a 12 month trial. The initiative won the HESTA Aged Care Award for Team Innovation.
