Plans by the state to close North Rockhampton and Eventide aged care facilities met further opposition with residents taking their protest to the streets.

Waving a placard at passing traffic, Vic Hall said that he was trying to save his home.

"Nearly all the residents would be out here if they could," he added.

Queensland Nurses Union regional organiser David Abraham said the protests were all about creating community awareness.

"This health board is supposed to represent the community," he said.

"There was no consultation with staff or the residents.

The planned closures have created concern not only about residents’ welfare but staff jobs as well.

"I've worked here for eight years," said Nurse Michelle Rallings.

"I think it's disgusting the government is selling these facilities.”

Mr Hall has lived in the Norman Rd aged care facility for five years and said the staff had become his family.

"I worked for 43 years, I did my national service. Then when you get old they just want to piss you off."

Charles Wade, Central Queensland Hospital and Health service board chairman previously stated that all residents would be cared for until an alternative placement was made.
