A mature and aged care facility in the Queensland town of Blackbutt is one step closer.

The Blackbutt and Benarkin Aged Care Association is combating the need for facilities and had a taste of success late last year when South Burnett Regional Council signed over four Scott Haven apartments for mature aged residents.

"We need the community to band together and volunteer their help," said association spokesman Robert Moult.

"These units and the future facilities are for the people of Blackbutt, so when they get to that age they don't have to move away from the town."

President Jeff Connor said the group's aim was to support the town’s elderly.

"Our main goal is to work towards the provision of aged care facilities in the local community for residents of Blackbutt, Benarkin, Yarraman and surrounds," he said.

They see a 90-bed nursing home for Blackbutt sometime in the future, and hope a volunteer force will make that happen. Their immediate focus is Scott Haven.
